Teaching activity
Courses and textbooks were, for me, more than a university obligation: they were a way of organising new fields, defining concepts and presenting them in a coherent form. This page brings together my teaching activity both thematically and chronologically.

FILS and the Software Engineering profile
My return to Politehnica through FILS, the construction of a coherent Software Engineering direction, the development of curricula, the first specialized master’s programme, the formation of a permanent teaching staff, and my leadership of the department from 2008 to 2012.

Study trips
A distinctive form of direct contact between students and industry, computing centres, major technical installations and the country’s cultural heritage during the 1970s.

Courses for industry
Alongside my university work, I also taught professional training courses for companies, public institutions and research organisations, especially in Italy. The subjects included programming, systems analysis and design, UML, Java, the Internet, networks, operating systems and office applications.

Periods
The same activities look different when arranged chronologically. The main stages of my teaching career are listed below; pages marked “in progress” will be completed gradually as I reconstruct the courses, textbooks and their context.
1970–1975: the beginnings in the Department of Computers
My first years at the Polytechnic: joining the Department of Computers, becoming involved with the Computing Centre and taking on my first teaching responsibilities.
1976–1980: the doctoral thesis and the consolidation of my courses
The period in which the courses acquired a stable structure and my theoretical and teaching interests became clearer, leading up to the defence of my doctoral thesis.
1981–1989: teaching, research and the transition towards software engineering
During the 1980s, my teaching became increasingly connected with research into program design and the software-development process. The Software Engineering course and laboratory became the setting in which ideas about the abstract machine, progressive refinement, the interform and computer-aided development tools were formulated, discussed and applied with my students and collaborators.

1989–1994: transition and the beginnings of my activity in Italy
A period of rupture and readjustment, between the end of my university activity in Romania and the beginning of new forms of teaching and professional work in Italy.

1994–2004: Ovidius University
My return to Romanian university education took place at Ovidius University in Constanța, through an activity conducted periodically between Italy and Romania. I taught theoretical and applied computer science, supervised students and doctoral candidates, and contributed to the consolidation of a still young academic structure.
2004–2012: return to the Polytechnic and activity at FILS
My return to the Polytechnic University of Bucharest took place through FILS, in a context very different from the one I had left in 1989. I developed and taught courses in programming and software engineering and helped establish a coherent Software Engineering direction. From 2008 until my retirement in 2012, I was head of the Department of Engineering in Foreign Languages.

2012–2023: after retirement — continuing my activity at FILS
After retirement, I continued teaching at FILS on an hourly-paid basis until 2023. My activity focused mainly on software engineering: software architectures, software methodologies, software development methods and software design techniques.
